"Cosmos" clock:
A mecanic clock showing the earth, the constellations, the months andtheir days Working of the time : The external golden disc is engraved in 24 hours, subdivised in quarters and it turns one turn each day. The extension of the oval piece indicates the time like a sundial. The minutes don't exist.
A difficult calculation on the gears permits to obtain a mathematic precision of 7''201 per year for the constellations disc and of -2''12 per lunar month for the moon. It is a mathematic difference between these stars and the sun, but the working of this one is connected to the working of this mechanical clock, regulated by a pendulum : such a clock is not as precise as an electric radio-controled clock for instance : the creator of this clock has prefered to stay in a mechanical working and endure this little imprecision. The interest of this clock is mainly esthetic, astronomic and didactic. |
